The Puppy Blues

Written by: Kassie Dickson, CDBC, CPDT-KA

What are the puppy blues?

The puppy blues are characterized by sadness, fear, anxiety, and even feelings of regret, of bringing that adorable ball of fluff home.

Training a new pup is hard and straight-up exhausting. We end up questioning ourselves if we made the right choice, if we have time to take care of them, and the endless what-if scenarios.

Having a new pup can be exhausting but it is worth it.

The feelings you may have are a result of the demands of taking care of another living thing. That means losing some sleep to crying and bathroom breaks, or maybe even losing your favorite pair of shoes.

You can manage the blues by asking for help. Whether it is getting a certified trainer, joining a puppy socialization class to meet new puppy owners, or reaching out to friends and taking your pup for a stroll with them.

The puppy blues are not a joy to experience. It is hard and makes you question if you are doing the right thing.

Take it one day at a time. Breathe. Make the best of the situation and celebrate; you just brought your best friend home.

Enjoy the good, the bad and the smelliness. 🐾

Now, go give your best friend a belly rub and some yummy treats.
