Why is my dog eating grass?

If so, you’re not alone and it is completely normal!

Dogs eating grass is quite common and this form of pica (a disorder that is characterized as eating things that are not food). It doesn’t cause a lot of problems but there are few things to be mindful of which will be discussed in this blog.

So back to the main question; why is my dog eating grass?

Well, there could be numerous reasons why your dog has decided that eating grass is the next best thing. One of the reasons could be because it improves digestion or that they are trying to fulfill some unmet nutritional need (ie: fiber). Another reason could be that they simply like the taste of grass. 

How should I stop my dog from eating grass?

One of the things to look at is why your dog is eating grass. Are they bored? If that's the case, use one of the dog toys or dog chews included in your Super PawBox and play with them instead. Engage in a game of frisbee, fetch, or tug; whatever fun activity that gets your dog focused on you rather than the grass. If you dog is a foodie, then train them with some of the training treats that come in your box and let them know that what you have is far yummier than the grass. 

If you feel like it has to do with your dog's diet, then talk to your Vet on how you can improve your dog's diet to alleviate the grass eating problem.

Is it safe for my dog to eat grass?

Though eating grass is generally safe, one of the main things to keep in mind is that certain pesticides or other substances that may be used on the grass can prove to be toxic if it is ingested. Another point to remember is that there are certain house plants that are not safe for dogs so make sure your dog is not munching on things they aren’t supposed to.
